Puerto Montt: to Patagonian Channels in a Magallanes Vessel

Itinerary: 4 Days / 3 Nights

    The M/N Magallanes, is a passenger and vehicle carrier that sails the route between Puerto Montt and Puerto Natales (and vice versa) in 4 Days and 3 Nights allowing those on board to discover the Patagonian channels. It sails through fjords, coves and bays in the Aisén and Magallanes Regions. You will be mesmerized by the unmatched beauty of the Patagonian channels with their countless islands, many of which are practically unexplored.

DAY 1 (Monday): PUERTO MONTT / SENO DE RELONCAVI / GOLFO DE ANCUD / GOLFO DE CORCOVADO

  • Prior to sailing, briefing in the Navimag offices (14:00 hrs), followed by passenger boarding. Set sail around 16:00 hrs. Captain’s welcome, safety video presentation and welcome dinner. Saling the Reloncaví Sound to arrive to the Gulf of Corcovado.

DAY 2 (Tuesday): MELINKA / CANALES PEREZ NORTE Y SUR / CANAL PULLUCHE

  • Sailing the Patagonian Channels, including Melinka and the North and South Channels. Sightings of Sea wolf and cormorant colonies. During the day talks on the Kaweskar ethnic group and the Patagonian flora and fauna. In the afternoon, sailing the Pulluche Channel with its particularly thick and abundant vegetation. Later sailing the open sea.

DAY 3 (Wednesday): CANAL MESSIER / PUERTO EDEN / PASO DEL ABISMO Y CANAL CONCEPCION

  • Following a briefing, docking in Puerto Edén, a town with no roads, just a wooden walkway that connects the town. The Kaweskar people originally populated this town. In the afternoon, talk about the Patagonian geology and the Torres del Paine. In the evening, bingo and farewell party.

DAY 4 (Thursday): LAST HOPE CHANNEL

  • In the morning, enter the Last Hope Gulf, indicating the end of the journey. Arrival to Puerto Natales at approximately 11:00 hrs. (dependant on weather conditions).

Puerto Montt: to San Rafael Lagoon Glaciers in Skorpios Cruise II

Itinerary: 7 Days / 6 Nights

    San Rafael Lagoon arises from the deep waters, giving evidence of the past glaciations with its huge walls of eternal ice. In the middle of San Rafael National Park, which was declared Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979. The vibrant ice blocks and their endemic eco-system, invite you to an unforgettable adventure.

DAY 1 (Saturday): PUERTO MONTT / GULF OF ANCUD / GULF OF CORCOVADO

  • At 11:00 hrs. the cruise departs from the Skorpios Terminal in Puerto Montt. We will sail along the Llanquihue Archipélago, then pass the town of Calbuco which was once a Spanish Fort and now is an important fishing center. Then the cruise goes across the Gulf of Ancud and the legendary Island of Chiloé. After midnight we will sail through the Golf of Corcovado.

DAY 2 (Sunday): MORALEDA CHANNEL / PUERTO AGUIRRE / PUNTA LEOPARDO

  • Sailing along the Moraleda and Ferronave Channels. Then the cruise arrives at Puerto Aguirre at 11:00 hrs where the passengers will be met by the local children. You will have an hour and a half approximately, to admire this peaceful fishing village. At 12:30 hrs. we will set sail and continue along the Ferronave, Pilcomayo, Costa channels, and the Elefantes Fjord. The anchor will be cast in Caleta Hualas or Punta Leopardos, 20 miles from the San Rafael Glacier.

DAY 3 (Monday): TEMPANOS CHANNEL / SAN RAFAEL LAGOON & GLACIER / QUITRALCO FJORD

  • We will sail along the Tempanos Channel. At 09:30 hrs. the ship enters the magnificent San Rafael lagoon and sets anchor 2 Km (1.2 miles) from the Glacier. Motorboat trips will be offered between multicoloured ice floes, as long as the weather allows it. At 15:30 hrs. the ship will approach the Glacier. At 17:00 hrs. we will navigate for the Quitralco Fjord.

DAY 4 (Tuesday): QUITRALCO / MORALEDA CHANNEL

  • Berthing at the Quitralco Dock. After breakfast, passengers may take a thermal bath at 36ºC and 32ºC (97ºF & 90ºF) at indoor or outdoor pools. Weather permitting; motorboat trips will take us up through the clear waters of the Quitralco Fjord. It is also possible to hike in the forests or go up to the viewpoint where one can appreciate the beautiful scenery. At 19:00 hrs we will sail in direction to Chiloé through the Moraleda and Pérez North Channels.

DAY 5 (Wednesday): LEUCAYEC CHANNEL / QUELLÓN / CASTRO

  • The sailing starts through the Leucayec Channel with a partial view of Melinka Island located in the Chonos Archipélago. These islands were pirate hideouts in bygone times. Then, the sailing continues across the Gulf of Corcovado and then bordering the eastern side of Chiloé. Drop anchor and if the weather allows it, an optional visit can be made to Queilen or Quellón. The ship will then sail along the Yal Channel and Castro estuary arriving to this beautiful town at 21:00 hrs.

DAY 6 (Thursday): CASTRO / PUERTO MONTT

  • Arrival to Castro. After breakfast passengers may visit the town, going to the craft fair and church. Optional excursion to the town of Chonchi, 18 Km (11 miles) away. At 12:45 hrs. we will return to the ship, and set sail along the Castro Estuary, through the channels of Lemuy, Dalcahue, Quicaví and Calbuco, sites of great geographical, historical and cultural interest. Farewell dinner. Arrival to Puerto Montt at 23:00 hrs.

DAY 7 (Friday): PUERTO MONTT

  • Docking at the Canal Tenglo dock. Breakfast between 08:00 and 09:.00 hrs.

Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas: to Chile - Argentina - Chile's Lakes Crossing

Itinerary: 7 Days / 6 Nights

DAY 1: PUERTO MONTT or PUERTO VARAS / ANGELMO / PUERTO MONTT or PUERTO VARAS

  • Reception at airport in Puerto Montt, and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon city tour around Puerto Montt, starting with a visit to Plaza de Armas (Arms Plaza) and the Cathedral. Then, visit the top of Melipulli Hill for a panoramic view of the port, Tenglo Island and the small Reloncaví Bay. Afterwards, travel to Pelluco and Chinquihue beaches, observing the fishing industries and ships along the way, and followed by the handicraft market in Angelmo. Transfer to the hotel in Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas. Accommodation in Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas.

DAY 2: PUERTO MONTT or PUERTO VARAS / PUYEHUE HOTEL & SPA

  • Half day tour visiting the city, Playa Bonita (Beach) where Huemul Island can be seen, and the foot of Campanario Hill. You can take the chair lift to the top of the hill (optional). Visit Llao-Llao Peninsula where you can see Puerto Pañuelo (Port). Arrive to the Panoramic Point, a balcony with a view of Moreno Lake and Llao-Llao Peninsula. Afternoon at leisure. Accommodation in Bariloche.

DAY 5: BARILOCHE / PUERTO PANUELO / PEULLA

  • Depart to Puerto Panuelo, sailing crossing Nahuel Huapi Lake to Puerto Blest (Port). After a short bus ride we reach Frias Lake where we will take a short boat ride towards Chile. We take a bus crossing the Vicente Perez Rosales border point and then to Peulla, a small village located inside Vicente Perez National Park. Dinner. Accommodation in Peulla.

DAY 6: PEULLA / PETROHUE / PUERTO VARAS / PUERTO MONTT

  • (Breakfast)
  • Depart on the Lake Crossing to Petrohue. Sailing on the beautiful emerald coloured waters, and observe the shore covered with native forests, mountains, Puntiagudo, Tronador and Osorno volcanoes and waterfalls. The bus borders Llanquihue Lake, until reaching Puerto Varas, and then head to Puerto Montt. Accommodation at Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt.

DAY 7: PUERTO MONTT

  • Transfer to the airport for your flight.

Puerto Montt: to Larches & Mountains in Alerce Mountain Lodge

Itinerary: 3 Days / 2 Nights

DAY 1: PUERTO MONTT / AUSTRAL ROAD / ALERCE ANDINO NATIONAL PARK

  • (Lunch - Dinner)
  • Reception at Puerto Montt airport, and transfer 36 kms (20 miles) down the Austral Road, passing a picturesque fishing village and miles of unspoiled countryside, before reaching the village of Lenca. Here we will begin the 40 minute climb up the unpaved, mountain trail. On the way, we will stop to visit one of the oldest know Alerce trees in this area called El Tata (The Grandfather) with an estimate age of 4,000 years. Continuing up and after a short ride we will arrive at the Reflections lake, where you will board a small hand drawn ferry, to reach our final destination, the lodge. Upon arrival to the lodge, you will be greeted by your hosts. As you sip your welcome drink, an illustrative briefing will be given regarding the hotel, its facilities, the flora and fauna that surrounds us and the activities planned for the next three days. Lunch will be served in the dining room, before we set off on a gentle stroll around the lagoon. In the afternoon there will be plenty of time to relax, and enjoy the facilities inside the hotel. In the evening you will be invited to dinner. Accommodations in Alerce Andino National Park.

DAY 2: ALERCE ANDINO NATIONAL PARK

  • (Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner)
  • In the morning, climb up “El Gran Nevado”. This is a difficult trek, lasting approximately 6 hours, climb from 800 m. to 1,500 m. (2,600 to 4,900 feet) along a natural trail through larch trees. You can see local birds including woodpeckers and humming birds. At the top there is a wonderful view of Seno Reloncavi and Osorno, Calbuco, Yates, Puntiagudo, Tronador and Corcovado volcanoes, and Lago Llanquihue (Lake). Snack. Horseback-riding to El Rodado. Accommodation in Alerce Andino National Park.

DAY 3: ALERCE ANDINO NATIONAL PARK / PUERTO MONT

  • (Breakfast - Lunch)
  • A morning of soft trekking to Los Alerzales (approximately 3 hours). Visiting a larch forest known as “Oro Verde Menor” (Green Gold Minor) with native species between 500 and 1,000 years old. Taking the opportunity to stop at Condor Viewing Point, to admire the enormous Andean Forest, the dense undergrowth of ferns, and other local plant species. Visit the “Oro Verde Mayor” Forest (Green Gold Major) with larch between 1,500 and 3,000 years old. At agreed time transfer to Puerto Montt.
