Punta Arenas: to Explora in the Patagonia

Itinerary: 5 Days / 4 Nights

    The dazzling spectacle that Torres del Paine National Park offers, allows the visitor to understand why this place was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Amongst the patagonic steppe and the Cordillera de Los Andes (Andes Mountain Chain), this paradise of animals and vegetation, hides treasures worthy of being explored and visited. There is a very large number of attractions and possibilities, so it is up to the passenger to finally decide what to do according to his/her personal wishes.

Punta Arenas: to Patagonian Channels in Skorpios Cruise III

Itinerary: 6 Days / 5 Nights

This expedition is inspired in the wanderings of the Kaweskar ancestors. Sailing through channels, sounds and fjords, each time nearer to the light blue shimmer of the glaciers, the passengers will also visit a small village full of traditions and appreciate nature in those places. Finally the expedition gets to the centre of Campos de Hielo Sur (Southern Ice Fields).

DAY 1 (Saturday): PUERTO NATALES / CRUCEROS SKORPIOS / PATAGONIAN CHANNELS

  • Reception at the Puerto Natales Airport. Check-in. Transfer to the Skorpios Terminal. Embarkation. Welcome drink and dinner on board. 18:30 hrs. Ship sets sail from Puerto Natales, navigating the Patagonian Channels, Kirke Narrowness, Channel Morla Vicuña, Seno Unión.

DAY 2 (Sunday): PATAGONIAN CHANNELS / AAMALIA GLACIER / ANTRIM FJORD

  • During the morning, we will continue navigating through the Sarmiento Channel, Pitt Channel and Concepción Channel. 10:00 hrs. arrival to the Amalia Glacier, the motorvessel gets closer to the Glacier, panoramic view from the ship. 12:00 hrs. Skorpios III starts sailing north. 19:00 hrs. Arrival to the Antrim Fjord, where we will supply with drinking water from a crystal clear river. Dinner on board.

DAY 3 (Monday): PIO X GLACIER / EYRE FJORD / PUERTO EDEN

  • 08:00 hrs Visit to Pío XI Glacier, navigating in front of the glacier, the biggest of South America, with a surface of 1263 km2, belonging to the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, the biggest national park in Chile. 12:30 hrs Ship weighs anchor from Seno Eyre and Grappler Channel. 16:30 hrs arrival to Puerto Edén, disembarkation in boats. Two hours excursion, visiting this village, located in Wellington Island. It’s first inhabitants were the kaweskar or alacalufes aborigines. This village doesn’t have any streets, only footbridges, were it is possible to take a walk around town and go up to a viewpoint. Ship sets sail at 18:30 hrs from Puerto Edén, navigating through the Paso del Indio and Paso del Abismo.

DAY 4 (Tuesday): PUERTO EDEN / ABYSS PASS / AMALIA GLACIER

  • 09:00 hrs We continue navigating through the Calvo Fjord where we will be able to appreciate four glaciers, of different shapes and colors. Excursions on board “Capitan Constantino” (icebreaker motorboat). The icebreaker gets close to the Constantino Glacier, only if the weather and ice conditions allow so. 15:00 hrs Excursion to the Alipio and Fernando Glacier. During the afternoon, navigation through the Peel Fjord. 17:30 hrs. arrival to the Brujo Glacier, excursion to the glacier rocks, disembarkation to land to visit this enormous mass of ice.

DAY 5 (Wednesday): MOUNTAINS FJORD / ANGOSTURA KIRKE / SENO DE ÚLTIMA ESPERANZA

  • 09:00 hrs Visit to the Montañas Fjord were we will be able to see five little glaciers that hook of from the hills to the sea. Visit to the Bernal Glacier. 16:00 hrs Ship sets sail from the Montañas Fjord, cross of the Kirke Narrowness, during the night, the ship casts anchor at Seno Ultima Esperanza. Captain’s farewell dinner and dance.

DAY 6 (Thursday): SENO DE ÚLTIMA ESPERANZA / PUERTO NATALES / PUNTA ARENAS

  • Navigating Seno Ultima Esperanza, 08:30 hrs arrival at Skorpios Terminal in Puerto Natales. 10:00 hrs passengers disembark, transfer to the Puerto Natales Airport.

Ushuaia: through the Poineers Route on Mare Australis to Punta Arenas

Itinerary: 4 Days / 3 Nights

Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world and the main port of the Southern Argentinian Patagonia. There is a lot to visit around the city, besides the natural attractions that have made this place famous. Mare Australis, the ship from Cruceros Australis, will sail through the Patagonian Channels and around Tierra del Fuego. Ground excursions to glaciers, islands, sea lion and penguin colonies, will be offered daily. Also we will sail trough the mythical Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn), well known all around the globe.

DAY 1 (Wednesday): USHUAIA

  • Check in at San Martín 245, Ushuaia, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., embark the Expedition Cruise Ship. The Captain and crew will give a welcome cocktail reception on board. Immediately afterward, the ship will set sail for “the uttermost part of the earth.” Through the mythical Beagle Channel, we will travel to Southern Patagonia, including Tierra de Fuego. This is the beginning of a Great Adventure! Accommodations on board the Mare Australis.

DAY 2 (Thursday): CABO DE HORNOS (CAPE HORN) / WULAIA BAY

  • We will sail through the Beagle and Murray Channels to disembark in Cape Horn National Park. Cape Horn, a sheer, almost 425-meter-high promontory, where the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean merge, was discovered in 1616 by the Dutch commercial expedition organized by Isaac Le Maire. The Cape owes its name to the Port of Hoorn, the expedition’s departure point. In the afternoon we will disembark in historical Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region’s largest native settlements. This area is also renowned for the spectacular beauty of its vegetation and geography. We will walk through a Magellanic forest filled with Lengas, Coigües, Canelos, ferns and other species to reach a look-out point. Accommodations on board the Mare Australis.

DAY 3 (Friday): GUNTHER PLÜSCHOW GLACIER

  • We will disembark near the Gunther Plüschow Glacier and approach to Piloto and Nena glaciers from the Zodiac boats, providing us with a closer look at these awe-inspiring masses of ancient ice. Accommodations on board the Mare Australis.

DAY 4 (Saturday): MAGDALENA ISLAND / PUNTA ARENAS

  • Early in the morning, we will disembark on Magdalena Island, the home of an immense colony of more than 120,000 Magellanic Penguins that we will be able to observe during our walk to the Lighthouse that guides different ships on their way through the Strait of Magellan. After our visit, we will return to Punta Arenas, disembarking at 11:30 a.m., concluding our adventure.

Punta Arenas: through the Poineers Route on Mare Australis to Ushuaia

Itinerary: 5 Days / 4 Nights

    Punta Arenas is the southernmost city in Chile, because further South there are only small towns. In this city the sun rises from the sea and sets on the mountains, a distinctive feature because in Chile it happens the other way round. There is plenty of attractions to visit within what is usually known like Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego (Fire Land). After observing mountains and glaciers that move into the ocean, the expedition continues to the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, to travel around it and visit its National Parks. Ground excursions to glaciers, islands, sea lion and penguin colonies, will be offered daily.

DAY 1 (Saturday): PUNTA ARENAS / ESTRECHO DE MAGALLANES (MAGELLAN’S STRAIT)

  • Check in from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Magallanes 990, Punta Arenas. 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., embark the Expedition Cruise Ship. The Captain and crew will give a welcome cocktail reception on board. Immediately afterward, the ship will set sail for the ”uttermost part of the earth.” Through the mythical Strait of Magellan, we will travel to Southern Patagonia, including Tierra de Fuego. This is the beginning of a Great Adventure! Accommodations on board the Mare Australis.

DAY 2 (Sunday): AINSWORTH BAY / TUCKER ISLET

  • During the dawn’s early light, our ship will continue navigating through Almirantazgo Inlet, until arriving near Marinelli Glacier in Ainsworth Bay, where we will enjoy a walk to discover a beaver dam in the midst of a marvelous Magellanic forest. On the beach we will observe a colony of Elephant Seals. Continuing the voyage, we will visit Tucker Islet, where we will sight colonies of Magellanic penguins and Cormorants from the zodiac boats. Accommodations on board the Mare Australis.

DAY 3 (Monday): PIA GLACIER / ALLEY GLACIER

  • We will navigate the main part of the Beagle Channel to enter Pia Fjord and disembark near the glacier of the same name. We will take an excursion to a look-out point that is ideal for viewing the mountain range where the glacier originates, and its flow all the way to the sea. After this unforgettable experience, we will sail again along the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel through majestic “Glacier Alley”: Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Holland glaciers. Accommodations on board the Mare Australis.

DAY 4 (Tuesday): CABO DE HORNOS (CAPE HORN) / PUERTO WILLIAMS
