Puerto Montt: to San Rafael Lagoon Glaciers in Skorpios Cruise II

Itinerary: 7 Days / 6 Nights

    San Rafael Lagoon arises from the deep waters, giving evidence of the past glaciations with its huge walls of eternal ice. In the middle of San Rafael National Park, which was declared Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979. The vibrant ice blocks and their endemic eco-system, invite you to an unforgettable adventure.

DAY 1 (Saturday): PUERTO MONTT / GULF OF ANCUD / GULF OF CORCOVADO

  • At 11:00 hrs. the cruise departs from the Skorpios Terminal in Puerto Montt. We will sail along the Llanquihue Archipélago, then pass the town of Calbuco which was once a Spanish Fort and now is an important fishing center. Then the cruise goes across the Gulf of Ancud and the legendary Island of Chiloé. After midnight we will sail through the Golf of Corcovado.

DAY 2 (Sunday): MORALEDA CHANNEL / PUERTO AGUIRRE / PUNTA LEOPARDO

  • Sailing along the Moraleda and Ferronave Channels. Then the cruise arrives at Puerto Aguirre at 11:00 hrs where the passengers will be met by the local children. You will have an hour and a half approximately, to admire this peaceful fishing village. At 12:30 hrs. we will set sail and continue along the Ferronave, Pilcomayo, Costa channels, and the Elefantes Fjord. The anchor will be cast in Caleta Hualas or Punta Leopardos, 20 miles from the San Rafael Glacier.

DAY 3 (Monday): TEMPANOS CHANNEL / SAN RAFAEL LAGOON & GLACIER / QUITRALCO FJORD

  • We will sail along the Tempanos Channel. At 09:30 hrs. the ship enters the magnificent San Rafael lagoon and sets anchor 2 Km (1.2 miles) from the Glacier. Motorboat trips will be offered between multicoloured ice floes, as long as the weather allows it. At 15:30 hrs. the ship will approach the Glacier. At 17:00 hrs. we will navigate for the Quitralco Fjord.

DAY 4 (Tuesday): QUITRALCO / MORALEDA CHANNEL

  • Berthing at the Quitralco Dock. After breakfast, passengers may take a thermal bath at 36ºC and 32ºC (97ºF & 90ºF) at indoor or outdoor pools. Weather permitting; motorboat trips will take us up through the clear waters of the Quitralco Fjord. It is also possible to hike in the forests or go up to the viewpoint where one can appreciate the beautiful scenery. At 19:00 hrs we will sail in direction to Chiloé through the Moraleda and Pérez North Channels.

DAY 5 (Wednesday): LEUCAYEC CHANNEL / QUELLÓN / CASTRO

  • The sailing starts through the Leucayec Channel with a partial view of Melinka Island located in the Chonos Archipélago. These islands were pirate hideouts in bygone times. Then, the sailing continues across the Gulf of Corcovado and then bordering the eastern side of Chiloé. Drop anchor and if the weather allows it, an optional visit can be made to Queilen or Quellón. The ship will then sail along the Yal Channel and Castro estuary arriving to this beautiful town at 21:00 hrs.

DAY 6 (Thursday): CASTRO / PUERTO MONTT

  • Arrival to Castro. After breakfast passengers may visit the town, going to the craft fair and church. Optional excursion to the town of Chonchi, 18 Km (11 miles) away. At 12:45 hrs. we will return to the ship, and set sail along the Castro Estuary, through the channels of Lemuy, Dalcahue, Quicaví and Calbuco, sites of great geographical, historical and cultural interest. Farewell dinner. Arrival to Puerto Montt at 23:00 hrs.

DAY 7 (Friday): PUERTO MONTT

  • Docking at the Canal Tenglo dock. Breakfast between 08:00 and 09:.00 hrs.

  • Cruise operates from September to May
